Introduction to Theatre for Non-Majors

A 16-week course for college undergraduates.

We cover 3 Units during the semester:

+ Unit 1 generates discussion about what Western theatre is, where it comes from, and how it can be used.

+ Unit 2 focuses on the various jobs of theatre and the collaborative nature of each job.

+ Unit 3 is an original 5-minute play festival, where students work together to produce self-written scripts. Students get hands-on experience in playwriting, directing, acting, designing, and stage managing.

Workshops

Wizard of Oz Vocal Warm-Up

A 1-2 hour workshop for folks of all ages and experience.

Students learn a fun and engaging way to warm up vocally, using various characters from The Wizard of Oz.

Audition Techniques

A 2-3 hour workshop for folks in high school and beyond, and all levels of experience.

Students gain skills in grounding, genuine presence, and confidence. We focus on how to enter the room, slate, and transition from self to character.

Camps

Shakespeare Summer Intensive I

A 3-week intensive for students ages 14-18.

Students engage with Shakespeare's works through games and exercises. Students learn basic scansion, character creation through voice and movement, and artistic collaboration with peers. We craft a 45-minute abridged Shakespeare script (using original text), and each student gets to take on at least one role. Students also have the opportunity to showcase other artistic talents, such as music and acrobatics.

Short Shakespeare

A 2-week camp for students ages 9-11.

Students engage with Shakespeare's works through games and exercises. Students are introduced to iambic pentameter, character creation through voice and movement, and how to work as an ensemble. We craft 15-minute abridged Shakespeare script (using original text), and each students gets to take on at least one role.

Shakespeare Showcase

A 2-week camp for students ages 6-9.

Students are introduced to Shakespeare and get to play a role on a 1-minute Shakespeare scene (original text). Students play lots of games, practice teamwork, and learn basic character creation through voice and movement exercises.

Camp Broadway

A 1-week camp for students ages 6-9.

Students learn 3 songs from popular musicals, with fun and easy choreography and vocals. Each student is also given the opportunity for a solo or a duet!

Students learn vocals, choreography, and dialogue for a 30-minute musical. Students learn warm-ups, theatre games, and group collaboration.
